Kite beach in Akyaka

The Akyaka kite beach is about a 15-minute walk along the shore from the town beach. You'll have to cross a small river along the way, but overall it's a pleasant walk. The same 10–15 minutes will get you there by car or taxi. There's a large parking lot at the entrance. The kite beach stretches for 3 km and is ideal for beginners and confident riders alike.

Unique conditions

The season usually runs from April through October inclusive. A steady, dense thermal wind blows along the coast, so regular forecasts won't tell you anything: this wind forms from the local temperature difference between water and land, and is stable and gust-free. It picks up around 11 a.m. and blows until 6 p.m., averaging 14–20 knots. About 95% of days in the season are ridable — making this one of the most reliable kitesurfing spots in Turkey and the world.

The wind blows at a slight onshore angle, and a large flat shallow area with a sandy bottom makes for very comfortable and safe learning conditions: you can stand up on the board without worrying about depth. The chop is small and doesn't interfere with riding. There's no shorebreak, no coral, no jellyfish, no tides. Once you get out from shore, you can confidently ride a hydrofoil. Out at sea you can often see caretta-caretta turtles and even dolphins!

Infrastructure

The beach has very well-developed and modern infrastructure. Kite stations operate on the beach where you can take lessons from complete beginner to advanced level, rent equipment, use a hot shower, compressor and equipment storage, sun loungers, lounge areas, and some stations have Wi-Fi and coworking. There's a bar and restaurant at the kite beach, and occasional parties. Entry to the kite beach is paid.

A bit further along the shore there's a wild lagoon that independent kiters drive out to, but you can only reach it by car going around — you can't walk there overland from the main kite beach.
