Sakartepe

The Sakartepe viewpoint is located at an altitude of about 903 meters and offers one of the most impressive panoramic views of the entire Gökova Bay. Climbing here is almost a must for those who want to see Akyaka and its surroundings from a bird's-eye view.
You can reach Sakartepe in various ways:
• by city bus, getting off along the highway,
• by car or taxi — the journey takes about 15 minutes from Akyaka.
• for hiking enthusiasts, there is a walking option: the viewpoint is about 3–4 km from Akyaka, and you can come here via a quite challenging and wild trekking route.
Sakartepe is a popular stop along the way and especially for watching the sunset: from here you can see both the bay and the mountains and the pine forests, all creating the feeling that the entire bay lies in the palm of your hand. There is also a café here where you can have Turkish tea.
Access to the viewpoint:
• if you are coming from Akyaka, the turn to Sakartepe will be on the left,
• if you are coming from Muğla — then on the right. The landmark is the sign “Sakartepe”. From the turn, you need to walk or drive about 1 km along the forest road to reach the viewpoint itself.
* Please note: the section runs along a mountain road in the forest, it is rocky and gravelly, so if you are driving, make sure your tires are suitable for such terrain.

The city beach and most of the coastline in the center are free; you can come with your own towel. There is a paid entrance to the equipped kite beach. Some hotels and restaurants on the shore have their own beach areas with paid sunbeds, but this is not mandatory.
