Lavender Fields

The lavender gardens, belonging to Mentese, the central district of Muğla, are one of the beautiful treasures of the region. The lavender gardens are located 32 km from Akyaka, beyond Sakartepe.
The care and harvesting of lavender are carried out jointly by the municipality and local residents, and the lavender products are made by residents and local cooperatives, providing income. Here, plants such as lavender, rosemary, mint with a menthol aroma, sage, marjoram, bay laurel, lemongrass, thyme, etc. are grown.
From these plants, medicinal-aromatic oils, herbal teas, local delicacies, and souvenirs are produced; these products are offered to visitors in the social area next to the gardens. Lavender was planted in the Yerkesik Yeniköy neighborhood as part of the “Valley of Aromas” (Koku Vadisi) project, implemented in 2019 for rural development.
Here you can meet hospitable locals and workers, drink tea, and take pleasant photos among the fragrant lavender bushes. The season starts around June. Since the lavender harvest usually takes place in August, you can visit the place throughout the period leading up to the harvest.
The Yerkesik neighborhood is on the route of buses heading towards the center of Muğla. You need to tell the bus driver in advance that you will get off at the Yerkesik Yeniköy neighborhood. From the drop-off point, you can either walk a bit or ask the locals for help to get to the lavender gardens.
