Cleopatra Beach

The ancient city of Cedrae is an archaeological and natural monument of the first degree, as well as a special environmental protection zone. The oldest settlement in this area, also known as the Island of Love, dates back to the 4th century. According to some sources, the royal families of Caria spent their summers on this island.
Entry to Cleopatra Beach and the ancient city of Cedrae is paid, the museum card is not valid here.
On the golden beach of the island, also known as Cleopatra Beach, the sand consists of uniquely formed calcium particles that are under protection.
The settlement on Sedir Island arose on the eastern side of the narrow strait that divides the island into two parts. The city theater, sacred sites, residential houses, port, and many other important civil and religious structures are located in this area, surrounded by walls. The necropolis, port, and part of other facilities are located on the eastern shore of the mainland, opposite the island.
Today, most of the preserved ruins, which can be seen both on the mainland and on the islands, date back to the period of the Eastern Roman Empire. After Turkish raids on the Caria region intensified in the late 11th century AD, the city finally came under the control of the Ottoman Empire in the first quarter of the 15th century AD.
If you want to thoroughly explore this ancient island city and spend a day at Cleopatra Beach, you can reach Sedir Island by boat from Akyaka or directly from the pier in the village of Çamlı towards Marmaris. You can reach this village by personal car, taxi, or bus. If you are departing from Akyaka, it makes sense to arrange for your return in advance.
* Please note: If you want to swim in the sea near the ruins of the historic church, be careful: sea urchins can be found in the water. You should also be cautious of the rocks and cliffs in the area of the Damlataş cave to avoid injuring your feet and slipping. Overall, it is recommended to have sea shoes during the excursion. In the season when the beach is crowded, and the café may not suit you, it is useful to bring your favorite snacks.
